“Do by self”

This past weekend, my mom lovingly recalled that my first sentence was “do by self.”

Yes, it was. And I delight in imagining how those words felt in my two-year-old mouth. “Do by self.” Paired with a ferocious furrow in my brow, it was a bold declaration of independence with a deep sense of “I got this!” So. Freaking. Powerful. Yes!

Over time this fierce independence evolved into a seriously overused strength—undermining my ability to participate in the reciprocal dance of life that involves: receiving. Oops.

Ironic—or perfectly predictable, depending on your perspective—that as someone deeply committed to supporting others, receiving support would be such a challenge.

Why share this?

I want to ask for your support—both as a demonstration of my growth and learning (!!), and as a practical action.

I launched my practice two years ago. These have been years of learning, growing, clarifying, and refining my craft—becoming excellent at it.

Two years of facing the fears and joys that big transitions can bring, while living, walking, talking, and breathing my core essence into the world.

It’s been good. Hard. Uncomfortable. Vital. Real. And I’m happy to report that, through it all: I’m all-in

Made possible by receiving support, an important part of my healing and growth that I’m getting better at—even if it's still a bit awkward!

And the support has been immense, from:

My partner, who (conveniently for me!) as an experienced advisor to start-ups has provided a foundation of care, persistence, and patience.

My parents and sister, helping me grow beyond that declaration of “do by self” by being the most encouraging and generous of supporters every step of the way.

Collaborators and colleagues who have been vital thought partners, co-conspirators, and sources of feedback and inspiration—both through Zoom and on countless miles of hiking trails.

Two coaches: one crucial to my own embodied integration, healing, and strength; the other key to bringing clarity to my offerings to the world.

Friends who have reminded me that this offering to the world is who I have always been and what I have always been about.

And vitally, the cherished people who I have been able to work with as clients, offering me the opportunity to participate in their remarkable life journeys.

This has been two years of living the work and being lived by it.

Through it all, an approach and a supporting framework has emerged that I find to be truly elegant, and an embodied capacity has landed.

All of this leads to my request for support. Hey, look at that growth!

My request for support: I need your help connecting with those who could benefit from this kind of support.

As I’ve learned: in life, receiving support makes all the difference.

In a world navigating polycrisis, the challenges we face—individually and collectively—are profound. In this reality, we are all transformative leaders, called to live the change the world is calling for from the inside out.

Through twenty-five years of founding, growing, and leading organizations dedicated to human, environmental, and societal well-being, I have come to understand this deeply:

  • We live transformative change in the world from the inside out—it is a journey of embodied healing and growth.

  • Coaching, as a dedicated space to hear and connect with ourselves, is vital for such a journey.

Most coaches have experienced the journeys they now help others navigate, and that is true for me as well.

During my years as an Executive Director, a board member’s advocacy on my behalf for coaching during an especially challenging time was pivotal.

Simply having the chance to hear myself, to make sense of the noise, with someone dedicated to that purpose—helping me hear myself—was game-changing.

Being able to prioritize what was most important amidst all the competing demands—not just for the work, but for myself as a human being—was like vital oxygen.

Even as a fiercely independent human being, I still feel a little weepy with how much having access to that kind of support meant to me at the time—and has meant for me over time.

Today, as a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach trained in Generative Coaching and informed by the principles of Functional Medicine, I have created and offer the Fractally Whole approach for this purpose—dedicated to supporting those committed to what-is-yet-possible in our world with their own deep resilience and ongoing regeneration.

As I share content in the weeks ahead, please consider who in your world would benefit from knowing that such support exists and is available to them on a sliding scale.

Looking forward to sending content you’ll enjoy sharing in the weeks to come! Feel free to forward these messages, share them, or reach out to me with any questions.
